The Oxford Pride committee would like to announce that we have come to the decision to postpone our 2020 Parade Day, originally scheduled for Saturday 30th May 2020, in response to the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. We are currently working towards a new potential date in Autumn 2020, which will be announced as soon as possible.
Whilst this was a difficult decision to make, in this time of uncertainty all that we are able to do is take into consideration advice from World Health Organization (WHO) and European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA). The discussion between our Directors and Operations Team has taken place over several days, and has included seeking agreement across the committee at our latest General Meeting held last night.
Above all else, it’s of paramount importance to us to do as much as we can to promote the safety and wellbeing of our Pride attendees and the wider community of Oxfordshire. Thousands of people attend our Parade Day each year, and as a mass gathering, we cannot run the risk of further people acquiring the virus within Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties.
We are incredibly grateful to our committee officers, volunteers, sponsors, venues, performers, stall holders, charity organisations, and all other partners who we have already been liaising closely with to plan our 2020 Parade Day. We appreciate there may be questions and concerns with regards to the decision made, and will be working closely with each and every supporter of Oxford Pride to ensure we can move forwards in a positive way.
We are also grateful to our Pride attendees for their ongoing support at this challenging time. On behalf of the committee, we would like to assure you that we remain strongly committed to finding a date in Autumn 2020 to come together and recognise, celebrate, and promote awareness of LGBTQIA+ life in Oxfordshire. We’ll be announcing our updated plans on our website (oxfordpride.uk) and social media pages once we’ve had the opportunity to hold the discussions needed. However, if anyone has any questions in the interim, they are welcome to email email@example.com.
